Szczebrzeszyn is an urban-rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Zamość County, with its administrative seat in the town of Szczebrzeszyn itself. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the former Zamość Voivodeship. According to data from June 30, 2004, the municipality had a population of 12,134 inhabitants. It covers an area of 123.16 km², of which 71% is agricultural land and 21% is forested. This constitutes 6.58% of the total area of Zamość County. The municipality comprises numerous villages, including Bodaczów, Brody Duże, Kawęczyn, as well as additional localities such as Czarny Wygon. Architecturally, Szczebrzeszyn stands out for its traditional buildings that preserve the regional character, along with historical sites that attract tourists. The municipality boasts a rich cultural heritage, including influences from Lublin folklore, which is reflected in local festivals and cultural events. An interesting fact is that Szczebrzeszyn is known as the "city of Szczepan," referring to the figure of Szczepan of Budziszyn, and also serves as a center for the local agricultural community. The municipality borders Nielisz, Radecznica, Sułów, Zamość, and Zwierzyniec, making it an important point on the tourist map of the region.
