Szachty (Poznań)

W skrócie

wikipedia
Szachty, also known as Glinianki, is an area in Poznań located in the valley of the Junikowski Stream, renowned for its rich brick-making history. This area once included settlements associated with brickyards, where building materials were produced until the 1990s. Remnants of historic industrial architecture can be seen here, including a complex of early 20th-century houses for brickyard workers. The region features around 40 ponds, remnants of clay excavation, which contribute to its unique cultural atmosphere. Szachty has been recognized as an ecologically valuable area and protected as ecological land since the 1970s. In 2014, efforts began to adapt the area for recreational use, including the construction of walking paths and a 25-meter-high observation tower offering panoramic views of Poznań. The name "Szachty" derives from the German word "Schacht," meaning shaft. The local flora and fauna are rich and diverse, with numerous plant and animal species. Rare plant species, including orchids, can be found along the pond edges, along with varied tree communities. Szachty is accessible via several bus lines, making it an ideal destination for recreational and tourist activities that blend history with nature.
