Szczuczyn is an urban-rural municipality located in the Podlaskie Voivodeship, within Grajewo County, with its seat in the town of Szczuczyn. Historically, between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Łomża Voivodeship. It covers an area of 115.72 km², of which 77% is agricultural land and 16% is forested, highlighting its predominantly agricultural character. As of June 2004, the municipality had a population of 6,717. It comprises several villages, such as Bęćkowo, Brzeźno, Chojnowo, and Mazewo, reflecting the diversity of its local community.
