Szczytna

Szczytna, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, is a town with a rich history dating back to the 14th century, when a trading settlement began to develop thanks to its strategic location on the Amber Route. Once known as Rückers, it received its current name in 1946. In the 16th century, the town was purchased by Jan Crato von Kraffstein, which contributed to its expansion; a mill, brewery, and glassworks were established at that time. Szczytna was an industrial center, especially in the 19th century, when large plants such as the glassworks became key elements of the local economy. The town also offers numerous historic sites, including the Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist with richly decorated altars and the neo-Gothic Leśna Castle, which is a major tourist attraction. In Szczytna, one can also find other interesting spots, such as the statue of St. John of Nepomuk near the Kamienny Potok River. The town is surrounded by picturesque mountains and offers attractive hiking trails, conducive to outdoor activities. It is also worth noting the sports center, which was established with the recreation and rehabilitation of residents in mind. After the closure of the glassworks in 2014, the town is seeking new ways to achieve sustainable development while preserving its cultural heritage through the activities of local associations, such as the Knightly Brotherhood of Our Lady Queen of Peace. Szczytna engages in international cooperation with partners, including Międzychód and Velké Poříčí, which fosters cultural exchange. The stories and monuments of Szczytna, which have survived for many centuries, make it an interesting place for both tourists and residents.
