wikipedia
The Table Mountains National Park, established on September 16, 1993, covers an area of approximately 63 km² in the Central Sudetes, near the Polish-Czech border. Its distinctive landscape, featuring flat plateaus and steep cliffs, is the result of the sedimentary origin of sandstone rocks, which were shaped over millions of years. The main peaks include Szczeliniec Wielki (919 m above sea level) and Skalniak (915 m above sea level). The need for nature conservation in the park’s area became urgent as early as the 1980s due to threats posed by developing health resorts and mass tourism. The park’s fauna is diverse—its waters are home to species such as brown trout and rare varieties like the Alpine bullhead and brook lamprey. The forests are dominated by red deer, wild boar, and roe deer, while wild predators such as badgers and pine martens inhabit the darker corners. Arboreal rodents, including the rare edible dormouse, are also unique to the region. The park’s history is marked by organized scientific sessions that led to its establishment, as well as efforts to protect the most valuable forest and geomorphological areas. Today, the park not only safeguards unique natural values but also serves as an attractive destination for tourists, offering numerous hiking trails and viewpoints. An interesting feature is the deer herd, which reflects the local fauna, as well as the presence of mouflons, which were introduced from Corsica. It is worth noting that the park is not only a natural attraction but also a cultural treasure, visited by tourists from across Poland and abroad.
