wikipedia
Sztutowo is a rural municipality located in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, within the Nowy Dwór Gdański County. Its history is deeply intertwined with the tragic events of World War II, as the area was home to the Nazi concentration camp "KL Stutthof," one of the longest-operating camps outside Germany. Liberated in 1945, the camp holds significant importance in the history of the Holocaust. The municipality of Sztutowo was established as a result of administrative reforms and covers an area of 107.49 km², dominated by agricultural and forest land. The seat of the municipality is the village of Sztutowo, and it comprises eight village districts, with Kąty Rybackie and Kobyla Kępa being particularly noteworthy. After 1991, Krynica Morska was separated from the municipality and became an independent urban municipality. The area is rich in protected territories, including the Vistula Spit Landscape Park and Natura 2000 sites, highlighting its natural value. Among the non-administered settlements are Dublewo, Grochowo Drugie, and Sztutowska Kępa, which are lesser-known but equally interesting places. In 2007, the municipality had a population of 3,520. Thanks to its location on the Baltic Sea and attractive natural features, Sztutowo has the potential to develop tourism, which could contribute to the revitalization of local culture and economy. An interesting fact is that the municipality constitutes 16.47% of the county's area, making it a significant element in the regional administrative and spatial structure. Sztutowo boasts a rich natural heritage, which in turn supports the protection of ecosystems crucial to the natural landscape of this part of Poland.
