Vistula Lagoon Museum

The Vistula Lagoon Museum in Kąty Rybackie, a branch of the National Maritime Museum in Gdańsk, plays a significant role in preserving and presenting the culture and history of the Vistula Lagoon region. Its architecture harmoniously blends into the local landscape, and the museum's interior is designed to showcase a variety of exhibits related to boatbuilding and fishing traditions. Among the most important collections is the original boatbuilding workshop of the Schmidt family from Łaszka, which illustrates the methods of boat production in the region. The exhibitions also include traditional fishing boats, which were an integral part of the local economy. An interesting highlight is the presence of a barkas—a sailing vessel used for fishing as late as the 1960s—attesting to the long history of fishing in this area. Also noteworthy is the unique ice sled "Ludowy 8," also known as "Weiland," which underscores the diversity of technology and equipment used in the region. The museum not only preserves traditions but also serves as an important educational and research center, attracting both tourists and local residents.
