Tarnogród is an urban-rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within Biłgoraj County, with its seat in the town of the same name. The history of the municipality dates back to before 1954, when the area was divided into two administrative units: the Tarnogród municipality and the Wola Różaniecka municipality. Between 1976 and 1982, the municipality expanded its borders to include new localities, and since 2006, its area has increased from 113.97 km² to 114.25 km². Tarnogród is a well-known cultural center, with many traditions and festivals celebrated by its residents. Architecturally, the town stands out for its historic buildings, including churches that reflect the regional architectural style. Demographically, the municipality has experienced a decline in population, from 6,839 inhabitants in 2006 to 6,655 in 2019, indicating a trend of outmigration.
