wikipedia
The Biłgoraj County, established in 1999, is located in the southern part of the Lublin Voivodeship, with its seat in Biłgoraj. This region, characterized by a diverse landscape, lies on the border of the Biłgoraj Plain and the Tarnogród Plateau. Within its boundaries flow the main rivers: Tanew, Łada, and Por, and there are also deposits of natural gas and crude oil. It is an area with rich agricultural traditions and extensive forested areas. Historically, the county has undergone numerous administrative changes—from the Tarnogród County in the 19th century, through various divisions during the partitions and after World War II, to its current form, which includes six towns, among them Biłgoraj, Tarnogród, and Józefów. Biłgoraj boasts a unique architectural heritage, with preserved 19th-century buildings, including Neoclassical structures, being of particular note. Historically, the region had diverse ethnic resources, which influenced its culture. It is also worth mentioning local customs and traditions, such as folklore and regional holidays, which highlight the county's rich culture and history. Today, Biłgoraj County focuses on tourism development, offering hiking and cycling trails, attracting visitors looking to spend time actively in the beautiful natural surroundings. Interestingly, in 2021, Goraj regained its town status, and in 2024, Turobin is set to do the same, reflecting the region's dynamic development trend. Thus, Biłgoraj County is a place where tradition meets modernity, creating an appealing offer for both residents and visitors.
