The Tatra National Park Nature Education Center, previously known as the Tatra National Park Nature Museum, was established in 1984 in Zakopane on the initiative of prominent figures such as Professor Witold Paryski and Professor Mieczysław Klimaszewski. As an institution of the Tatra National Park, the museum aimed to showcase the nature of the Tatra Mountains and the history of environmental conservation in the region. In 2004, in response to changing social and tourism needs, the museum was transformed into a modern Nature Education Center, which involved updating exhibitions and introducing numerous educational programs for tourists and the local community. Between 2015 and 2017, an ambitious expansion project was carried out with support from the Norwegian Funds and the European Union. The result is a modern, multimedia exhibition that innovatively presents the richness of Tatra’s fauna and flora. The Center also houses the Zofia Radwańska-Paryska and Witold H. Paryski Tatra Documentation Center, which collects valuable materials related to the history of the Tatra Mountains, including tens of thousands of items such as books, maps, and photographs. This place not only educates but also serves as an important cultural hub, contributing to the protection and promotion of the Tatra Mountains' natural values. Additionally, the Center engages in various environmental conservation activities, making it a significant landmark on the region’s cultural and ecological map. Interestingly, in the past, the museum was a pioneer in environmental education, and its legacy continues to be reflected in modern forms of nature education.
