wikipedia
The "Kamienica Pod Złotym Pucharem," known in German as "Zum Goldenen Becher," is located in Wrocław on the southern side of the Market Square. Its history dates back to the 13th century, when two smaller townhouses were built on the plot and later merged. In the 16th century, the building underwent reconstruction, and from this period comes a stone votive tablet depicting Christ. From the second half of the 16th century, the townhouse was owned by the Becherer family, and the building itself was modernized several times—in the 17th century in the Baroque style, with a new facade and distinctive triangular window pediments. In the 18th century, the townhouse came into the possession of Bernhard Joseph Grund, and sculptures characteristic of that period, as well as his likeness, can be found on the facade. In the 19th century, the building underwent a thorough renovation, transforming its architecture to Neorenaissance. At the beginning of the 20th century, despite planned expansions, the considered projects were not realized, and the townhouse was adapted for commercial purposes, including the operation of a drugstore that remained here until the 21st century. In 1945, the building suffered damage during the war but was rebuilt in 1955, preserving some historical elements. The Kamienica Pod Złotym Pucharem, with its rich history and numerous architectural transformations, is not only an example of Wrocław's heritage but also a place of significant cultural and commercial importance to the city. Interestingly, throughout various periods, the building's history was shaped by a considerable number of owners, including notable figures associated with Wrocław.
