wikipedia
The Fojutowo Aqueduct, located in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, is a unique monument of hydraulic engineering and one of three such structures along the course of the Great Brda Canal. Built between 1845 and 1849, the design was inspired by ancient Roman aqueducts and aimed to enable the transfer of water from the Great Brda Canal over the Czerska Struga stream. The structure reaches an impressive length of 75 meters and a width of 68 meters, with a characteristic height difference between its levels of 9 meters. The construction consists of two levels – the lower one, which forms a tunnel for the Czerska Struga stream, and the upper one, through which the Great Brda Canal flows. The aqueduct played a key role in irrigating the surrounding fields and meadows and facilitated timber rafting. Throughout its history, the structure has undergone several renovations, including the first one between 1979 and 1981, when the brick vault was replaced with reinforced concrete, and another in 2002, which used concrete slabs to restore its original appearance. An interesting fact is that this aqueduct is the longest structure of its kind in Poland, making it not only a significant engineering achievement but also a tourist attraction of the region. The architecture of the aqueduct reflects historical construction traditions, combining functionality with aesthetics, thereby enriching the cultural heritage of the Tuchola Forest.
