wikipedia
The Bishop's Palace in Nysa is a monumental structure that once served as the residence of the Wrocław bishops, functioning as a prestigious seat in the Duchy of Nysa. Adjacent to the palace is a complex of buildings erected on the site of an earlier medieval bishop's castle, first mentioned in 1260. The building underwent a series of reconstructions, particularly in the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, until its final completion in the Baroque style between 1722 and 1729. The palace's architecture is characterized by its three-story, four-wing structure, with the size and decorations of the wings reflecting the evolving styles of different eras. The front façade stands out with its rich ornamentation, symmetrical portals, and diverse architectural solutions that capture the dynamism of Italian Baroque. A unique feature is the three painted sundials from 1708–1710, located in the courtyard. From a historical perspective, the palace has witnessed many key events, including the 1769 meeting between the Prussian King Frederick the Great and Emperor Joseph II. After the secularization of church properties in 1810, the palace changed its purpose and was transformed into a museum in the 20th century. Although partially destroyed during World War II, it was rebuilt between 1947 and 1948 and became the home of the District Museum in Nysa in 1984. Today, the palace is not only an important historical landmark but also a cultural and tourist attraction, drawing numerous visitors.
