The Gold Museum in Złotoryja, established in July 1978, was founded through a community initiative and with the support of the city authorities. It is housed in a well-preserved mid-18th-century building that has been integrated into the historic defensive walls of Złotoryja. This unique combination of defensive architecture and museum functionality gives the place a distinctive character, reflecting the town's rich history. Until 1998, the museum operated under the name Social Museum of the Złotoryja Land. The Gold Museum's collection includes many valuable objects, the majority of which come from the collection of Leopold Schmeterling. Among the exhibits are a stunning gilded glass carafe with glasses, as well as agate and pyrite, which attract both history and art enthusiasts. The museum also plays an important role in cultural education, engaging the local community and tourists in events related to the gold mining tradition, making it a significant point on the cultural map of the region. Interestingly, Złotoryja is not only home to monuments related to gold mining but also other forms of art, giving the town a prominent place in the history of Lower Silesia.
