Złotoryja County, established in 1999 as part of the administrative reform, is located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, with its seat in the town of Złotoryja. It comprises urban, urban-rural, and rural municipalities, reflecting the diversity of local communities. The county is bordered by other counties, such as Legnica and Jawor, and the history of this area dates back to earlier administrative reforms when the county existed before 1975, including the town of Chojnów. Over the years, the county authorities have undergone various changes, with different forms of governance introduced throughout its history, from government plenipotentiaries to starosts (county administrators). In 2019, the unemployment rate in Złotoryja County was recorded at 12.8%, with approximately 1.7 thousand registered unemployed residents. At the end of 2019, the county had a population of 43,490, which decreased to 43,274 by mid-2020. Interestingly, before January 1, 1999, the municipality of Świerzawa and the town of Wojcieszów belonged to the Jelenia Góra Voivodeship.
