wikipedia
The "Kamienica Pod Złotą Palmą" (Tenement Under the Golden Palm), also known as the Lower Silesian Public Library in Wrocław, boasts a rich history dating back to the end of the 13th century, when it was originally a wooden structure with a forecourt. Over the centuries, it underwent numerous reconstructions, with the most significant changes taking place in 1500, 1592, and the early 17th century. During these renovations, it was given a Gothic gable with a Mannerist portal and a Baroque-Classicist facade. By the end of the 20th century, the building had been transformed into a modern commercial house, featuring distinctive shop windows and multiple retail spaces, including the well-known "Priebatsch’s Buchhandlung" bookstore. The Priebatsch family, the bookstore's owners, had a significant impact on Wrocław's cultural life through their publishing and bookselling activities. After World War II, the tenement quickly adapted to the new reality and began serving a cultural and educational role as the Tadeusz Mikulski Lower Silesian Public Library. An interesting fact is that in 1891, one of the first telephones in Wrocław was installed in the building, highlighting its modernity. Despite numerous changes over the years, the building has retained many architectural details that attract both residents and tourists. Today, due to its function as a library, it serves as a venue for cultural events and art exhibitions, such as those held in the "Galeria Pod Plafonem."
