The Klatt House in Knyszyn

The Klatt Family House in Knyszyn is a historic wooden building dating back to the late 18th century, constructed on a rectangular plan. Its creators, the Klatt family, arrived from Germany to the Podlasie region, adapting to life in their new surroundings, which over time led to their Polonization. The building stands as a testament to the multiculturalism of the region, and alongside the Klatts, the Bartkiewicz and Piasecki families also lived here for some time, collecting documents and items related to the history of Knyszyn. After the death of the last owner, the house became the property of the local municipality, which decided to create an exhibition inside, allowing both residents and tourists to explore local history. The architecture of the house reflects the traditional wooden construction of Podlasie, and its history illustrates the complex cultural past of the region, where various nationalities and traditions coexisted for centuries. As a place for gathering historical memorabilia, the Klatt House has created a space for learning about local traditions and values, making it an important landmark on the cultural map of Knyszyn.
