wikipedia
The monument to Aleksander Fredro is located on the southern frontage of Wrocław's Market Square. Cast in bronze by the sculptor Leonard Marconi in 1879, it depicts the poet sitting on a chair, holding a scroll of paper and a quill. The unveiling ceremony took place on October 24, 1897, in Lviv, where it gathered many dignitaries and literature enthusiasts. After World War II, as a result of agreements between the Polish government and the USSR, Fredro's monument was moved to Warsaw and then to Wilanów Park in 1946. In 1956, due to the settlement of many repatriates from Lviv in Wrocław, it was decided to relocate the monument to this city, where Lviv’s academic traditions were to be continued. The monument was unveiled in Wrocław on July 15, 1956, on the site where the statue of the Prussian King Frederick William III once stood. Interestingly, Fredro was familiar with Wrocław and even considered buying an estate in the area in 1856. The monument is an important symbol of Poland's cultural heritage and highlights the ties between Poland and Lviv, which was a significant literary and artistic center.
