The Iglica on Solny Square in Wrocław, also known as the Little Iglica, is a monument from 1996, designed by the Wrocław sculptor Adam Wyspiański. This granite obelisk, placed on a stepped platform, attracts attention with its undulating shape, resembling a flame. Architecturally, the Little Iglica combines modern design with the local historical context. The monument alludes to tragic medieval events, including accusations against Jews and their burning at the stake, as well as incidents from the 15th century when the residents of Wrocław burned their valuable possessions under the influence of sermons by the Franciscan Jan Kapistran. This location also had an earlier history; between 1827 and 1944, a monument to Field Marshal Gebhard von Blücher stood there. The people of Wrocław often distinguish the Little Iglica from the larger Iglica in front of the Centennial Hall, which is an interesting aspect of local symbolism. The monument lacks a dedicatory inscription, which may encourage reflection on history and its consequences, thus serving both a decorative and educational role.
