wikipedia
The Rogalin Palace, located in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, is a historic building constructed between 1770 and 1776 by Kazimierz Raczyński, then Crown Writer. Its design, presumably created by Saxon architects working in Warsaw, showcases the late Baroque style and typical features of the "entre cour et jardin" layout. During construction, Kazimierz Raczyński commissioned a redesign of the façade in the spirit of Classicism, while the French garden with a mound offering a view of the Warta River reflected a keen attention to aesthetics. Raczyński's successors, including Edward Raczyński, contributed to the further development of the palace by adding a landscape park and the Church of St. Marcellinus with a mausoleum, inspired by the Roman temple Maison Carrée. In the 19th century, the palace underwent several renovations, and the Neo-Baroque library designed by Zygmunt Hendel became its new hallmark. After World War II, the building was transformed into a branch of the National Museum in Poznań, and many changes were made to its interiors, which unfortunately led to damage. The art gallery, housed in a building from 1910, contains a significant collection of European and Polish paintings, including works by artists such as Olga Boznańska, Jacek Malczewski, and Jan Matejko. The Church of St. Marcellinus, completed in 1820, also holds rich cultural significance, serving as a mausoleum for the Raczyński family, including Edward Bernard Raczyński, President of Poland in exile. The Rogalin Palace impresses with its architecture, historical richness, and cultural importance, making it a key site on the map of Polish national heritage. It is also worth mentioning that the church is connected to pilgrimage routes, underscoring its role in local culture and tradition. Since 2018, the palace and park complex has held the status of a Historic Monument, further elevating its rank and significance in Polish cultural heritage.
