wikipedia
The Paper Museum in Duszniki-Zdrój, established in 1968 in a 19th-century paper mill, is the only one of its kind in Poland and one of the few operating paper mills in Europe. The mill features unique architecture, including a shingle-covered roof, a Baroque gable, and polychromes from the 17th to 19th centuries. Inside, visitors can explore the restored paper mill building, unique handmade papermaking equipment, and extensive collections, including sheets of paper with watermarks and historical banknotes. The museum also conducts papermaking workshops and organizes educational lessons. A significant part of the museum is the "Polish Paper Money" exhibition, which showcases the evolution of currency in Poland. Papermaking in Duszniki has deep roots, dating back to the 16th century, with the first paper mill mentioned in 1562. In the 18th century, the mill supplied paper used by Polish rulers and artists, such as Frédéric Chopin. After World War II, the mill fell into disrepair until it was transformed into a museum. The museum has been repeatedly awarded for its cultural activities, and its archives serve as a valuable source of knowledge about the history of papermaking and paper production techniques. After being designated a historical monument, the museum is now seeking UNESCO World Heritage status, collaborating with other European paper mills. The Paper Museum is a unique place that blends the traditions of papermaking with modern educational and cultural activities, attracting tens of thousands of visitors each year.
