wikipedia
The sculpture "Boy with a Foal" by Berlin sculptor Hans Krückeberg was created in the first half of the 1930s and has been located on Wine Hill (Winne Wzgórze) in Zielona Góra since the 1960s. Originally donated to the Wehrmacht barracks in Krosno Odrzańskie, the monument was intended to serve propaganda purposes in the context of the National Socialist art of the Third Reich. It was used on the garrison grounds until the late 1950s before being relocated to Zielona Góra, where it was initially displayed at the militia club "Gwardia." After the opening of the Palm House (Palmiarnia) in 1961, the sculpture was placed on the stairs leading to the café, where it stands to this day, becoming an informal symbol of the city. It is worth noting that for a long time, the work was mistakenly attributed to another sculptor, Josef Thorak, due to similarities in their artistic styles. However, Krückeberg's signature on the base of the monument definitively confirms his authorship. The sculpture harmonizes with the architecture of the surrounding park, contributing to its cultural value. Today, it is integrated into the landscape of the Wine Park (Park Winny), adding charm to the area, and the history of its creation and relocation enriches the local heritage of Zielona Góra.
