wikipedia
Sołtysówka in Jurgów is an example of the Podhale region's architecture, consisting of a residential building and farm buildings. Built in 1861 by the great-grandfather of the last owner, Jakub Sołtys, the cottage was set on stone foundations, and its walls were made of split and round spruce logs. Characteristic of this building is the linear layout with the front entrance located in the northern wall. The interior comprises practical rectangular spaces: the entrance hall, main room, and storage chamber, where the daily activities of the household were centered. The main room features wide split logs in the walls, a stove with an oven, and traditional everyday items such as a bed, a table, and a collection of Jurgów folk costumes. The farm buildings, including the woodshed, sheepfold, barn, and stable, are also made of moss-sealed round logs and were used for storing wood, hay, and livestock, reflecting the local lifestyle. After the death of Jakub's mother in 1942, the property was taken over by Jakub Sołtys in 1979, and the Tatra Museum acquired it in 1982, setting up an ethnographic exhibition depicting the life of a poor Spiš peasant from the 19th/20th century. The added value of the property is its preserved original furnishings and elements of traditional craftsmanship, making it an important site for preserving the cultural heritage of the region.
