wikipedia
The synagogue in Góra Kalwaria, located at 5 Pijarska Street, was built in 1905 on the initiative of the Alter family, on the site of a previous synagogue that had been destroyed by fire. Architecturally, the building is rectangular in shape, and its interior features a spacious prayer hall with a shallow niche on the eastern wall for the Aron ha-kodesh, the place where the Torah scrolls are kept. Despite the damage it suffered during World War II at the hands of the German occupiers, the synagogue remains an important part of the cultural heritage of the local Jewish community. After the war, it was handed over to the Jewish community in Warsaw, underscoring its historical significance. Over the years, the synagogue has not only served as a place of prayer but also stands as a witness to history and the evolving cultural identity of Góra Kalwaria. Interestingly, the building is one of the few preserved testaments to the presence of Jewish communities in the region, making it a significant landmark in the study of Jewish history in Poland.
