The Franowo tram depot in Poznań, the largest in Poland, was built with the support of European Union funds and officially opened on May 7, 2014. Covering an area of 17 hectares, it is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe, featuring a parking hall that can accommodate 100 trams and state-of-the-art technical facilities. Construction began in 2011, and in 2012, trams previously stationed at various terminals began to be relocated here. Located in the Nowe Miasto district, the depot utilizes an innovative Depot Management System (DMS), which automates many vehicle maintenance processes. The facility includes both drive-through and stationary washing systems, inspection bays for technical condition checks, and a paint shop. Historically, the need for new infrastructure had long been recognized to address tram storage issues, and its construction was a response to previous shortages at MPK Poznań. The depot serves numerous tram lines and currently houses modern vehicles suited to the needs of urban transport in Poznań. An interesting fact is that it was the first facility in Poland to be equipped with a DMS, significantly enhancing traffic safety and management efficiency.
