The Ulma Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews in World War II in Markowa, opened on March 17, 2016, is an institution commemorating the actions of Poles who rescued Jews during the Holocaust. Since June 30, 2017, the museum has operated as an independent entity, co-managed by the Podkarpackie Voivodeship and the Ministry of Culture. Established based on a decision by the Podkarpackie Regional Assembly in 2008, the museum is housed in a 500 m² building featuring a semi-transparent facade, symbolizing the secrets unveiled during the visit. The structure replicates the home of the Ulma family, reflecting the pre-war history of Markowa and events related to the Holocaust. The exhibition space covers 120 m², and plaques in front of the building honor Poles who rescued Jews and those who lost their lives in this mission. Surrounding the museum is the Garden of Remembrance, symbolizing the nationwide scale of rescue efforts, with illuminated plaques listing the names of towns where aid was provided to Jews. At the center of the garden stands a monument to the Ulma family, relocated from a nearby open-air museum. The garden was officially opened on October 19, 2018, during the Third Assembly of Poles Saving Jews. The museum actively participates in cultural events such as Museum Night and observances of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It also initiates educational projects, including outdoor exhibitions about the Jewish community of Podkarpacie. A notable initiative is a mural dedicated to Irena Sendlerowa in Rzeszów, created in collaboration with the museum. The museum serves as a space for Polish-Jewish dialogue and promotes the memory of Poles who demonstrated courage and solidarity by saving Jews during difficult times. From its opening until September 2018, it attracted over 100,000 visitors, underscoring its appeal and significance in cultural and historical education.
