Theater Square in Wrocław

Theater Square (Zwingerplatz) in Wrocław is located within the Old Town, which is protected as a historic urban complex dating from the 13th to the 19th century. The square connects Świdnicka, Teatralna, and Widok streets and was built on the site of a historic interwall space, with its name referring to its location between the medieval city walls. A distinctive feature of the square is the Wrocław Puppet Theatre, surrounded by important landmarks such as the Wrocław Opera and the Monopol Hotel. It is worth noting the neo-baroque buildings and interesting sightlines that offer a panoramic view of the theater and the park. The history of the square dates back to 1806, when the defensive walls were demolished. Between 1896 and 1912, the square acquired its current name and attractive architectural forms, including a new building for the merchants' club, which served as a meeting place for traders.
