The Hill of Three Crosses, also known as the Mountain of Three Crosses, is a significant elevation in Kazimierz Dolny, playing an important role in the history and culture of the town. Known since 1577 as Cross Mountain, it commemorates the victims of the plague epidemic of 1708 through the erection of three crosses evoking Golgotha. The current crosses visible at the summit date back to 1852, with their inscriptions added in 1930. The hill is also associated with legends and the ancient settlement of Kazimierz, once referred to as Windy Mountain. From a natural perspective, the slopes and summit of the Hill of Three Crosses feature rare, protected vegetation, including species such as dwarf cherry and feather grasses. The hill offers a picturesque view of Kazimierz Dolny and the Vistula Valley, making it a popular tourist destination. Stone steps lead to the top, and a small entrance fee has recently been introduced. This hill is not only a tourist attraction but also an important cultural landmark, symbolizing the region’s history.
