wikipedia
Trzebnica is a town in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship with a rich history dating back to the transfer of a market fair from Cerekwica in 1146. The first mentions of the settlement come from 1138. In the 12th century, the Trzebnica Abbey was established here—the first Cistercian convent in Poland. The town received its municipal rights in 1250 and over the centuries changed territorial affiliations, belonging successively to Polish, Bohemian, and Prussian duchies. Landmarks in Trzebnica include the Basilica of St. Hedwig with its church and monastery, as well as the 13th-century Church of St. Peter and Paul. Visitors can also admire 18th-century residential buildings, a rectory dating from around 1700, and the former "Hedwig's Spa" hotel from 1888. A unique feature is the numerous sporting events, including the annual underwater hockey tournament Aqua Battle, as well as the Municipal Sports and Entertainment Hall opened in 2021. The town is known for its cultural activities, including the Museum of the Cult of St. Hedwig of Silesia and the Regional Museum. Trzebnica is also home to diverse religious communities, including Roman Catholic and Greek Catholic churches. Recreational areas are located near the town, and local youth actively participate in various sports disciplines such as football, volleyball, and cycling. Trzebnica combines a rich historical and architectural heritage with the sporting passion of its residents, making it an interesting destination for both tourists and the local community.
