wikipedia
The PTTK Shelter on Turbacz, opened in 1958, is an impressive building in the Zakopane style with an arched entrance and a mansard roof, situated at an altitude of 1,283 meters. It offers over 100 sleeping places and serves as the central hub of the hiking trail network in the Gorce Mountains, providing access to stunning views of the Pieniny and Tatra Mountains. Nearby is the PTTK Museum of Mountain Culture and Tourism, which showcases the history of tourism in the region and the legacy of Władysław Orkan. Every year, on the second Sunday of August, the Festival of the Mountains is held on Rusnakowa Clearing, attracting both highlanders and tourists. In a historical context, Turbacz was a site of partisan fighting during World War II, and the shelter served as a refuge for hidden patriots. The name Turbacz has various etymological interpretations, as well as regional names in the highlander dialect. The slopes of Turbacz are characterized by diverse topography, with numerous mountain ridges. Although the summit itself is not particularly spectacular in terms of views, its legendary history and surrounding nature attract many visitors. Turbacz is also part of the Crown of Polish Mountains and serves as a starting point for many mountain biking marathon routes.
