TVN

TVN is a Polish commercial television station that began broadcasting on October 3, 1997. The history of the station includes significant events such as obtaining a broadcasting license in 1996 and merging with Telewizja Wisła, which allowed for an expansion of its reach. The station quickly gained popularity thanks to its original productions, such as the news program "Fakty," the game show "Millionaires," and reality shows, including "Big Brother," which set viewership records. The news program "Fakty" became TVN's flagship show and a real alternative to TVP's programs. In August 2001, TVN organized Poland's first election night, presenting election results faster than public television. The station was also involved in organizing numerous cultural events, including the Sopot Festival and the Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity. TVN underwent several ownership changes: from ITI to Scripps Networks Interactive, then Discovery, and finally Warner Bros. Discovery since 2022. Technologically, the station ended analog broadcasting in 2013, and in 2022, it switched to a digital broadcasting standard. TVN also has an HD version, which debuted in 2007. Over the years, the station has won numerous awards but has also faced controversies, including allegations of employee abuse and penalties imposed by the National Broadcasting Council. It is also worth noting that TVN's logo was significantly changed in March 2024, marking a new chapter in the station's history. Interestingly, TVN was originally supposed to be called TV7, and the abbreviation was intended to stand for "independent television" or "new television."
