Uchanie is a rural commune located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Hrubieszów County, with its seat in the village of Uchanie. From 1975 to 1998, the commune was part of the Zamość Voivodeship. The commune covers an area of 120.75 km², of which 78% is agricultural land and 16% is forested. Demographic data shows that in 2004, the commune was inhabited by 5,114 people, but this number decreased to 4,621 in 2017 and further to 4,514 in 2019, indicating a population decline. Within the commune lies the Gliniska Nature Reserve, which protects the habitat of the rare speckled ground squirrel, highlighting the area's importance for nature conservation. Uchanie is a place with rich cultural heritage, and the commune comprises many village districts, including Uchanie, Wola Uchańska, and Łuszczów, reflecting the diversity of local traditions and customs.
