The Politechnika metro station, located in Warsaw's Śródmieście district, is one of the key stops on the M1 line. Its construction began in 1985, but due to financial difficulties, it was put on hold until the mid-1990s, deviating from the original schedule. It opened on April 7, 1995, as the terminal station of the first phase of the metro. The architectural design was developed by the Metroprojekt studio under the direction of Jasna Strzałkowska-Ryszka and Jerzy Blancard. Despite the low budget, the station boasts functional qualities, featuring a single-space platform hall and ceramic wall decorations, although many planned ornamental elements were never added. The station is also characterized by gray wall panels and raw concrete ceilings. As part of renovations, a mosaic commemorating the 600th anniversary of Polish-Turkish relations was unveiled in 2015, and a new visual information system along with evacuation gates were installed. The Politechnika station holds cultural significance—it reflects the development of the Warsaw metro and the modernization of urban infrastructure. In 1999, a plaque commemorating Jan Podoski was unveiled, and Roman Ciesielski received recognition in 2004. The station’s annual passenger numbers grew from 7.43 million in 2004 to 15 million between 2013 and 2014, highlighting its popularity. Transport connections in the area include tram and bus stops, as well as Veturilo bike-sharing stations. The station also features an underground parking facility, emphasizing its functionality. In 2013, the station experienced a fire incident, though prompt action by rescue teams ensured passenger safety. Politechnika has also been referenced in culture, notably in the 2010 rap song "U nas na Śródmieściu." Its opening marked a new phase in the development of Warsaw’s transport infrastructure, significantly improving urban mobility.
