wikipedia
Urzejowice is a village in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, within the Przeworsk commune, with a population of approximately 1,850. It is the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Nicholas the Bishop. The locality boasts a rich history dating back to prehistoric times, with evidence of settlement from the Neolithic period and traces of the Przeworsk culture. Urzejowice has the character of a strip village, with a regular layout of buildings around a central square. Historical documents indicate that the village has had various names since the 14th century, with its current name taking shape in the 18th century. Urzejowice is situated between routes leading to Ruthenia, which gained importance after the annexation of Red Ruthenia by Casimir the Great. The village is home to a parish church, whose history begins in 1411 when the first parish was established by the Derszniak family. By the 18th century, the church had significantly deteriorated, leading to the construction of a new building between 1904 and 1906, designed by Jan Hochberger. The church was consecrated in 1910 and houses preserved artifacts such as paintings and a new organ from 1911. Urzejowice also features the Turnau family palace and park complex, with a palace dating back to 1887, which is part of the local cultural heritage. The village is also home to the sports club Promyk Urzejowice, founded in 1959, and among the notable figures associated with the locality is Józef Gołdasz, a lieutenant of the Home Army. With its rich history and architecture, Urzejowice has significant tourism potential, particularly due to the preserved narrow-gauge railway, which now serves tourist functions.
