wikipedia
Wileńska Station is a station on the M2 metro line in Warsaw, located in the Praga-Północ district under Targowa Street, between “Solidarności” Avenue and Białostocka Street. It was opened on March 8, 2015, after several years of intensive construction work that began in December 2011. Architecturally, the station's design, created by Andrzej Chołdzyński, stands out with its elegant finish, where the main color is navy blue with black elements. The station's interior combines functionality with modern design; illuminated panels and granite floors add a contemporary character. The station has 13 entrances and 11 elevators, ensuring easy access for passengers. From a historical perspective, the station was built as part of the construction of the central metro section, and its construction involved tunneling under the Vistula River. During the construction, military materials were discovered, highlighting the complex and often unpredictable challenges faced by the construction team. Wileńska Station has also become an important transport hub, connecting various forms of transportation—metro, rail, and public transit. After its opening, the station quickly became the most popular point on the entire M2 line, as confirmed by record passenger numbers. Interestingly, on the day the M2 line opened, rides were free, attracting approximately 233,000 people. The station serves not only residents but also tourists, thanks to its proximity to important landmarks such as the Galeria Wileńska and the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene. It is also worth noting that in 2019, after the opening of a new section, Wileńska Station ceased to be the terminal station on the M2 line. The station not only blends into Warsaw's architecture but also reflects its dynamism and the development of modern transport solutions.
