Skrzypiec is a village located in the Opole Voivodeship, in the Prudnik County, on the border of the Opawskie Mountains and the Prudnik Depression. Historically, it lies in Upper Silesia and has a population of 395 people (2013 data). The village is characterized by a moderately warm climate with an annual average temperature of +8.2°C and average annual precipitation of 619 mm. Skrzypiec, once known by various names including Kreiwitz or Krzypice, derives its name from a local plant – horsetail (skrzyp). The history of the locality dates back to 1331, when it was first mentioned. In the 13th century, Skrzypiec belonged to Moravia, and in later centuries it went through various administrative divisions, including under the Habsburgs and Prussia. In the 19th century, industry developed, including a water mill and a distillery. After World War II, the village was settled by Polish repatriates, and the German-speaking population was displaced. Architecturally, in Skrzypiec, it is worth noting the rural layout from the 14th century, the water mill from 1866, and the manor complex with a park, which was established in the second half of the 19th century. Other monuments include residential buildings from the 19th and 20th centuries. The village's culture is enriched by tourism, and the PTTK branch has established the Tourist Sightseeing Badge of the Prudnik Land. The locality lies on attractive cycling routes, which attracts tourists. Skrzypiec is also under the care of the local police district and the Border Guard, ensuring safety. People associated with the locality include Jan Szczurek – a poet and representative of the rural community. Thanks to its rich heritage, picturesque landscapes, and cultural and tourist activities, Skrzypiec is an interesting point on the regional map.
