Węgorzewo is an urban-rural municipality in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, located in Węgorzewo County. Its history dates back to earlier years, and between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Suwałki Voivodeship. The seat of the municipality is Węgorzewo, which, according to 2017 data, had a population of 16,878. The municipality covers an area of 341.11 km², of which 52% is agricultural land and 15% is forest land. Węgorzewo has a rich structure of villages, with numerous localities such as Brzozowo, Czerwony Dwór, and Jakunowo, as well as many smaller settlements like Biedaszki and Jerzykowo. The municipality borders Russia and the municipalities of Budry, Giżycko, Kętrzyn, Pozezdrze, and Srokowo, which influences its diverse cultural and economic contacts.
