Włodowice

Włodowice is a town in Poland, serving as the seat of the Gmina Włodowice in the Silesian Voivodeship. On January 1, 2023, it regained its town rights after losing them in 1870. The history of Włodowice dates back to 1220, when the settlement was mentioned in a document by Bishop Iwo Odrowąż of Kraków. The town was repeatedly destroyed during Tatar invasions and as a result of the Swedish Deluge. In 1386, it came into the hands of the Włodek family of the Sulima coat of arms, and in 1523, it was acquired by the Boner family, who converted the church into an Arian chapel. However, the temple was returned to Catholics in 1594. Włodowice is located in the Częstochowa Iron Ore Basin, where an iron ore mine once operated. During World War II, the town experienced German occupation, and its local Jewish community was deported to extermination camps. Włodowice is also known for the palace built by Stanisław Warszycki between 1669 and 1681, which played a significant cultural role. The palace, an example of Polish Baroque architecture, hosted many important guests, including King John III Sobieski. Throughout its centuries-long history, the town also stood out for its educational activities, particularly thanks to Count Michał Poraj Poleski, who established an advanced agronomic school. Włodowice boasts a rich history, Baroque architecture, and fascinating events that have shaped its cultural heritage.
