Warsaw University of Technology

Warsaw University of Technology (PW) was established in 1915 in Warsaw, as a result of many years of efforts by the Warsaw Scientific Society. The university has rich traditions dating back to 1826, when the first technical school was founded. Established with the permission of Governor General Hans von Beseler, it has gained a reputation as one of the best technical universities in Poland and Central-Eastern Europe. For years, PW has consistently ranked first in the "Ranking of Higher Education Institutions" among technical universities according to the monthly magazine "Perspektywy". In 1951, the university incorporated the Hipolit Wawelberg School of Engineering into its structures, which contributed to the further development of its educational offerings. The main campus of the university is located in the central part of Warsaw, in the Śródmieście district, highlighting its important place in the life of the capital. The architecture of its academic buildings combines modernity with historical elements, providing students and lecturers with excellent conditions for learning and work. PW has 19 faculties and the College of Economic and Social Sciences, as well as 10 student dormitories. The PW libraries, which form the Library and Information System, are extremely rich, with over 1.5 million book copies and a broad electronic database. The university also engages in cultural activities, involving students through student organizations, scientific clubs, and student media such as radio and online television. One of the oldest student folk ensembles in Warsaw, the Warsaw University of Technology Song and Dance Ensemble, and the Academic Choir operate at PW, emphasizing its strong cultural tradition. Interestingly, in Ian Fleming's novel "Thunderball," the character Ernst Stavro Blofeld, James Bond's antagonist, was a student of the university, giving it a place in pop culture. In 2015, to mark the centenary of PW, the National Bank of Poland issued commemorative coins for this anniversary. The university is also recognized for numerous awards, such as the Gold Medal "For Merit to Polish Science – Sapientia et Veritas". Warsaw University of Technology is an important center of science, culture, and innovation, attracting students and researchers from around the world.
