wikipedia
Werbkowice is a village in Poland, located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the municipality of the same name. It lies west of Hrubieszów, in the Hrubieszów Basin, near national road No. 74. In 2011, the village had 2,941 inhabitants, and its history dates back to at least 5500 BCE, when traces of settlement were discovered. The first written mention of Werbkowice comes from 1394. The locality was known in the Middle Ages, and by the 15th century, it already had a mill and an inn. It changed owners multiple times, including noble families such as the Szydłowskis. In the 19th century, the Werbkowice sheep farm became one of the largest in the Polish Kingdom, and the village developed economically, with schools, mills, a distillery, and a brickyard being established. In 1963, a sugar refinery was launched, significantly contributing to the region's development. Werbkowice boasts a rich architectural heritage, with landmarks such as a wooden Uniate church from 1870, a mid-19th-century palace, and a palace complex with a park. The village is home to the Międzyzakładowy Ludowy Klub Sportowy Kryształ Werbkowice, which currently plays in the fourth league. An interesting fact is that the village was the site of significant historical events, including actions by the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in 1946. Werbkowice is an important point on the regional map, full of history, monuments, and traditions.
