Wierzbica, formerly the Olchowiec Commune, is a rural municipality located in the Lublin Voivodeship, within the Chełm County, with its seat in the town of Wierzbica. The municipality covers an area of 146.36 km², of which 79% is agricultural land and 9% is forest land, highlighting its predominantly agricultural character. In 2004, it was home to 5,433 residents. Historically, between 1975 and 1998, the municipality was part of the Chełm Voivodeship. A notable cultural feature of Wierzbica is that it is home to the primary school named after Kazimierz Górski, the legendary coach of the Polish national football team, adding a touch of local pride and historical significance. The municipality consists of several village administrations, including Bakus-Wanda, Kamienna Góra, Wierzbica-Osiedle, and Wólka Tarnowska. In addition to the main villages, smaller settlements such as Buza and Werejce contribute to the area's diverse structure. In terms of borders, Wierzbica is adjacent to the municipalities of Chełm, Cyców, Hańsk, Sawin, Siedliszcze, and Urszulin, forming a regionally varied area. Typical of the Polish rural landscape, the municipality is characterized by vast farmlands while preserving traditional elements of regional culture.
