wikipedia
Wieszczyna, also known as Nowa Wieś, is a picturesque settlement located in southwestern Poland, in the Opole Voivodeship, within the Prudnik County. Due to its location in the Opawskie Mountains, the village is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, including views of the Biskupia Kopa massif and fishponds. Historically tied to Upper Silesia, Wieszczyna was a place of significant commercial importance, with a customs office existing here as early as the 16th century. Administrative changes after World War II brought forced resettlements, and the village gained new residents from the Eastern Borderlands and central Poland. The name "Wieszczyna" is associated with the term "wieszczek," meaning a person who predicts the future. A notable monument is the 19th-century roadside chapel, listed in the voivodeship register of historical landmarks. The village is developing touristically, with new facilities such as the "Wieszczynówka" hotel and the "Kantadaj Village" resort. Tourist trails pass through Wieszczyna, including the Main Sudeten Trail, making it a popular destination for tourists. In terms of security, the settlement is under the care of the local police and the Border Guard, which is particularly important due to its proximity to the Czech border. In 2023, Wieszczyna was granted the status of a settlement, highlighting its significance in the region.
