wikipedia
Stawa Młyny, also known as Mühlenbake, is a distinctive windmill-shaped navigational beacon located at the end of the Western Breakwater in Świnoujście, at the mouth of the Świna River into the Baltic Sea. It stands 10 meters tall and is painted white with a black roof. The beacon was built between 1873 and 1874 as part of the modernization of the waterway, and its navigational importance is emphasized by its front leading light, visible within a sector of 166°12′–174°12′, with a range of up to 17 nautical miles. Together with the Galeriowa Beacon, located 522 meters to the south, it marks the waterway to the port. Stawa Młyny has become a symbol of Świnoujście, and its image is used in promotional materials, postcards, and tourist guides, highlighting its significant place in local culture. It is also associated with a legend about Alice and an old miller, which tells of the windmill’s healing powers for weary sailors. After the miller’s death, the secrets of his treatments were lost, but people still visit Świnoujście in search of health and youth. In 1976, the beacon appeared in the film "Latarnik" directed by Zygmunt Skonieczny, further cementing its place in the region's cultural heritage.
