Witonia is a rural municipality located in the Łódź Voivodeship, within the Łęczyca County, with its administrative seat in the village of Witonia. Between 1975 and 1998, the municipality belonged to the Płock Voivodeship and is now a member of the Association of Municipalities of the Kutno Region. In 1975, the villages of Budki, Szamów, and Wargawa were incorporated into the municipality from the Kutno district. According to data from 2007, the municipality had 3,466 inhabitants, but by the end of 2019, this number had decreased to 3,237. The municipality covers an area of 60.45 km², of which 90% is agricultural land and 1% is forested, making it predominantly rural and agricultural. It constitutes 7.82% of the area of Łęczyca County. In terms of safety, several Volunteer Fire Department (OSP) units operate here, including OSP Witonia, which is part of the National Rescue and Firefighting System, as well as other units such as OSP Anusin, OSP Gledzianówek, OSP Gołocice, OSP Kuchary, and OSP Romartów. Neighboring municipalities include Daszyna, Góra Świętej Małgorzaty, Krzyżanów, Kutno, and Łęczyca. Witonia and its surroundings attract attention due to their rural character and proximity to larger urban centers. With a history dating back to periods of administrative transformation, the municipality is an example of a local community where tradition and modernity coexist.
