wikipedia
Wleń, located in the southwestern part of Lower Silesia, is a town with a rich history and significant architectural value. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, with the first mentions of the settlement appearing as early as 1228. Wleń obtained town rights before 1261 and experienced a period of intensive development between 1278 and 1368, gaining numerous trading privileges. The town is characterized by its preserved Old Town layout, and among its most important monuments are the 18th-century town hall, the Church of St. Nicholas with its quadrangular tower from 1500, and Wleński Gródek Castle, the oldest brick castle in Silesia. Numerous cemeteries, tenement houses, and residential buildings are also listed in the register of monuments. Wleń is also a place where penitential crosses and the Dove Seller Monument, commemorating the tradition of pigeon markets, have been preserved. Additionally, the surrounding area offers beautiful recreational spaces, including Lake Pilchowickie and the "Castle Mountain" nature reserve. Cultural life thrives in the town thanks to the Center for Culture, Sports, and Tourism, which organizes various events, including the International Lumberjack Tournament. Wleń has faced numerous historical devastations, including fires and floods, and after World War II, the town was handed over to Poland, which involved the displacement of its former inhabitants. Today, Wleń, with its many tourist and cultural attractions, is a place that attracts both residents and tourists.
