wikipedia
The Dietrichstein Palace in Wodzisław Śląski is a historic architectural complex built between 1742 and 1747 as one of the first classical buildings in Poland, replacing an earlier castle dating back to around 1257. This castle, founded by Prince Władysław, had a rich history marked by numerous reconstructions and damages, especially during the wars of the 17th century. In 1685, after the estate was granted to the Dietrichstein family, construction began on a new residence designed on an elongated rectangular plan by architect Franciszek Anton Grimm, exemplifying French classical Baroque style. The palace features a symmetrical 15-axis façade with a central projection adorned with the coats of arms of its builders. Its architecture, including elements such as a triangular pediment, a semicircular portal, and plastered walls, reflects high-quality craftsmanship. After changes in ownership, the palace long served as the town hall, and since 1971 it has housed the Museum in Wodzisław Śląski, which regularly organizes permanent and temporary exhibitions related to the region's history. The museum collects a rich array of archaeological, ethnographic, and historical artifacts, promoting local culture and traditions. In 2018, a revitalization project began, concluding in 2022, which modernized the palace and made it accessible to people with disabilities. During the renovation, a construction incident occurred, but fortunately no one was seriously injured. Thanks to the modernization, the palace now provides space for concerts, exhibitions, and conferences, becoming a vital part of the city's cultural life. An interesting fact is that the palace not only preserves its historical character but also engages the local community through diverse events and projects, underscoring its importance as a center of culture and regional history.
