Wojcieszków is a rural commune in the Łuków County, located in the northwestern part of the Lublin Voivodeship. From 1975 to 1998, it was part of the Siedlce Voivodeship. The commune has an agricultural character, with 78% of its area occupied by agricultural land and 13% covered by forests. In 2016, it was inhabited by 7,006 residents. The seat of the commune authorities is Wojcieszków, which was founded in 1437 by Klemens Bieliński. This town received its city rights in 1540 from King Sigismund I the Old but gradually declined in importance until 1819, when it lost these rights due to trade barriers resulting from its location among forests and sandy areas. Today, its beautiful natural landscapes foster the development of tourism. The commune boasts rich natural resources, including the Mała Bystrzyca River, known for its diversity of fish and crayfish species, which attracts fishing enthusiasts. In Wojcieszków, there is a historic church and a cemetery where Maria née Babska, the wife of Henryk Sienkiewicz, is buried. The local educational infrastructure focuses on primary and secondary schools, as well as the activities of the Society of Friends of Wojcieszków, the Catholic Youth Association, and the commune public library. Sports play a significant role in the life of the commune through the activities of sports associations and the "Orkan" People's Sports Club, which promotes physical activity among young people. Various sports clubs also operate in Wojcieszków, including football and volleyball sections. The commune consists of numerous village administrations, such as Burzec, Bystrzyca, and Wólka Domaszewska, as well as settlements with basic locality status, like Kolonia Siedliska. It borders the communes of Adamów, Borki, Krzywda, Łuków, Serokomla, Stanin, and Ulan-Majorat. With its rich cultural and natural heritage, Wojcieszków is an interesting place both to live in and to visit.
