wikipedia
Łuków County, established in 1999 within the Lublin Voivodeship, has its seat in the town of Łuków. This area, situated mainly on the Łuków Plain, is characterized by diverse terrain with more significant elevations found on the Żelechów Upland. The hydrography is dominated by numerous rivers such as the Krzna, Bystrzyca, and Świder. However, due to the land's slight gradient, the county lacks large rivers, which causes water levels to rise locally during snowmelt and heavy rains. Historically, Łuków County lies in the central part of the Łuków Land and eastern Mazovia, with long-standing ties to Lesser Poland and Lublin. In 2019, the county had a population of 106,816, and in 2008, it was home to 7,193 economic entities, predominantly in the private sector. The tourist area includes towns such as Łuków, Wola Okrzejska, and Stoczek Łukowski, known for historical events and Baroque architecture, including religious monuments. The county boasts a developed network of tourist trails, such as the Trail of the Łuków Land, the Henryk Sienkiewicz Trail, and excellent recreational facilities in the Łuków Forests. Among the county administrators (starosts) are Jan Szczygielski and, since 2018, Dariusz Szustek. An interesting fact is the activity of numerous museums in the region and its historical connections to Polish literature. It borders the counties of Biała Podlaska, Radzyń Podlaski, Lubartów, and Ryki, as well as several counties in the Masovian Voivodeship, highlighting its importance in regional administration and tourism.
