wikipedia
The Wolin Open-Air Museum is a medieval open-air museum, opened on April 7, 2008, by Tomasz Wojtczak, president of the Center of Slavs and Vikings "Wolin-Jomsborg-Vineta". Located on the island of Wolińska Kępa, the museum features 13 structures related to the early medieval architecture of the town of Wolin. The buildings are situated within defensive earthworks and a palisade, emphasizing their historical character. Development plans for the museum include projects for additional structures, such as a minter's hut, a potter's workshop, a fisherman's hut, an amber workshop, and a medieval port. The cultural aspects of the museum are particularly highlighted during the annual Festival of Slavs and Vikings, which attracts numerous reenactment groups and tourists, offering demonstrations of ancient crafts and reenactments of medieval warrior battles. The museum has also gained recognition in the media, as evidenced by films shot here for Polish Television and the History Channel. Unfortunately, the museum has also experienced tragedy, with two fires destroying several huts. In February 2011, one of the huts burned down, and two more were destroyed on April 24, 2014. Despite these events, the Wolin Open-Air Museum remains an important cultural and historical landmark in the region, combining education, reconstruction, and tourist attractions.
