wikipedia
Wrocław Nadodrze, a railway station built in 1868 according to Hermann Grapow's design, is the second-to-last standard-gauge railway station in Wrocław. Located at Plac Powstańców Wielkopolskich, the station connects Wrocław with Upper Silesia on line no. 143. Initially operating as Rechte-Oder-Ufer-Thorbahnhof, the station gained significance after World War II, becoming the first point of arrival for trains from eastern directions. Architecturally, the station building stands out with its three-story structure and the use of red, unplastered brick, reflecting 19th-century historicist styles. It features three projecting sections (ryzalits), and its central part with an arcaded portico gives it a monumental character. A modernization in the 1920s brought changes to its infrastructure, including tunnels and platforms. The station plays a key role in Wrocław's cultural life as an important transport hub. It serves regional, express, and passenger services operated by various carriers, including PKP Intercity and Koleje Dolnośląskie. The station is an integral part of the Lower Silesian Agglomeration Railway, underscoring its importance in regional transport. Bus stops around the station make it a local communication center. An interesting fact is that until 1950, the Wrocław-Trzebnica-Prusice Narrow-Gauge Railway operated near the station, and Nadodrze was the first station to handle tram lines after the war, including the popular line no. 1 connecting the station with Biskupin. In 2009, the building was taken over by the Marshal's Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and later designated as the future headquarters of the Lower Silesian branch of Przewozy Regionalne. Both its history and architecture make Wrocław Nadodrze a significant element of Wrocław's railway heritage, intertwining important transport threads with the history and urban development of the region.
